Sofia the First is set in the storybook world of Enchancia and tells the story of Princess Sofia, an adventurous little girl who is learning how to adjust to royal life after her mom marries the king and she becomes a princess overnight. Upon moving into the castle to live with her new family, including her step-father, King Roland II, and step-siblings, Amber and James, Sofia quickly discovers that looking like a princess isn’t all that difficult, but possessing the characteristics of a true princess – honesty, loyalty, courage, independence, compassion and grace – is what makes one truly royal. Helping her in her journey are the three headmistresses of Royal Prep Academy – Fauna, Flora and Merryweather (the beloved fairies seen in Disney’s classic “Sleeping Beauty”); the royal steward, Baileywick; and a group of cute woodland creatures led by a wise-talking rabbit named Clover.

Character & Episode Information

Isla appeared in two episodes of this animated series from Disney Junior, voicing the character of Button, a Wee Sprite. The Sprites – Button, Bengee and Brody – are playful little creatures who just like having fun. They first meet Princess Sofia when they are playing in the fountain in the castle garden – they call for her help when they find themselves floating out of control on a leaf but can’t swim; Sofia rescues them, and they become friends. The Sprites are keen to have fun wherever they can, and Sofia discovers that once they have been invited into a house, it takes a lot of work to get them out.

Sofia’s mum is reluctant to let the Sprites come for a sleepover as she has heard they can cause a lot of mischief, but the Sprites tell Sofia to ignore her mum, and Sofia invites them in anyway. Initially having lots of fun together during their slumber party, the next morning the Sprites get a little carried out and cause all sorts of trouble in the castle. Sofia must now work out how to get them out of the castle – for good…

Sofia soon figures out what they’re up to and convinces her friend that she will get used to her new house; just as Vivian learns to like her new castle, her parents decide they want to move back, so Sofia and Vivian tell them what they’ve done and they work together to rid the new castle of the Sprites …

‘The Littlest Princess’
Button: “We’re Wee Sprites!”
Sofia: “Wee Sprites?”
Bengee: “Little folks who roam the land looking for big adventures!”
Button: “But not this big – the boys thought it would be fun to swing on leaves, I said no, they said ‘please’, so I said ‘ok’ and then next thing you know ‘splash!’, here we are!”

Sofia: “I’m sorry guys, but my mom doesn’t think it’s a good idea for you to sleep over.”
Button: “But we’re so small and your castle’s so big, your mom won’t even see us!”
Bengee: “Button’s right, you can just put us in your pocket and sneak us in!”

Bengee: “Woah, this is going to be some party!”
Brody: “Once we get through with it!”
Button: “I’m so excited I could burst! Oh! That gives me an idea, follow me!”

Button: “Well there is one way you could get rid of us! I shouldn’t have said that! Nevermind! We’re here to stay.”

Sofia: “Are you guys mad at me because I tricked you out of the castle?”
Bengee: “We’re really sorry Sofia, we got a little carried away.”
Sofia: “It’s alright. Is that why you’re so sad?”
Button: “Well that, and also being in your castle reminded us how nice it is to have a home, instead of moving from place, to place, to place, to place [sobs].”

‘All The Sprite Moves’
Button: “What can I say? We like to have fun! But sometimes fun causes messes, and messes cause trouble, and then everyone freaks out!”
Bengee: “So now, we live out here!”
Sofia: “Which is much better for everyone!”

Button: “She wants us to cause trouble – how cool is that! I could stay here forever! Do you think we could?!”

Button: “I can’t wait to see what we’ll do next! Oh I know, I know! Let’s make sugar angels in the kitchen!”

Fisher Fantastic

This is a fun series aimed at 2-7 year olds. Isla’s character Button is a supporting character in two episodes and she features prominently in ‘The Littlest Princess’. She infuses her character with her typical spark and enthusiasm and brings the mischievous nature of Button to life. It’s obviously worth a watch for Isla fans, but in part due to her limited role and the short episode, is not the most notable of her voice work.
